Special Needs Strollers Wheelchairs?
Abby asked:
Anybody know of any brands of stroller that are larger than standard (seat etc.) that I could put my 6 year old son in? He is severely Autistic and has poor muscle tone. I desperately need something to go out of town with but can’t afford the outrageous prices of the convaid chair or even the maclaren major unless, someone knows where I can buy a used one?
Thank you

How much are you willing to spend?
The special needs strollers in the first link range from $450 upwards. You could also try ebay or talk to your local special needs/disability services. They may be able to give you some ideas of where to go.

Unfortunately these things are expensive, but if you ask your sons Occupational therapist if he/she maybe able to tell you where you can get a second hand one.
Many of my clients OT have access to secondhand equipment, that is thoroughly cleaned & checked before being, sent onto the next family.
I am sure that Chillswoman can give you a good link, to whom to contact in the US. But would most certainly start with the OT.
I am not sure if the links below will help, but they maybe worth having a look at.
Good luck

Why won’t insurance pay for it? Don’t you have Medicaid? Its available to disabled kids. Even if he can walk part of the time he would still be eligible for a wheelchair if he has difficulty with distances. Just get his Dr. to write a prescription and submit to insurance.
